Re-entry Services at DOC

Inmates assessed as requiring comprehensive re-entry services and who are within 180 days of release may be designated to participate in the structured programming offered on the Department of Corrections (DOC) re-entry unit. Inmates on this unit participate in structured morning and afternoon program activities offered by DOC Re-entry case management staff along with our volunteer partners. Services provided are comprehensive in nature and include workshops/instruction in life skills, parenting, anger management, health education, resume preparation, keyboarding and financial management.

Coaching on strategies to access community resources is included and focuses on transitional and permanent housing, employment, substance abuse treatment, healthcare and other critical wraparound services. Additionally, inmates are encouraged to participate in the Welcome Home Mentoring Program that matches them with volunteers who commit to mentoring from the time of initial incarceration through release. Recent enhancements include development of an inmate-run Commercial Drivers License training class, formulation of a specialized life skills component and unit sanitation program, and initiation of GED preparation classes.
