
Deputy Warden Robert S. Dean Jr. currently serves as the Deputy Warden of the Correctional Treatment Facility, where he is responsible for direct oversight of day-to-day operations. Deputy Warden Dean is a distinguished correctional professional with over 20 years of experience across various roles and security levels. A retired Warden with the Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services, Robert’s final assignment was at Jessup Correctional Institution, Maryland’s largest maximum-security prison.
During his tenure, Robert spearheaded transformative programs to improve institutional operations and promote successful community reintegration. His notable initiatives include implementing Medication- Assisted Treatment programs and leading innovative partnerships, such as establishing a degree program with Bowie State University and launching the nation’s first service dog training program exclusively for incarcerated veterans.
Recognized for his critical thinking, communication skills, and leadership, Robert has held key positions ranging from Chief of Security to Intelligence Supervisor. He has investigated high-profile cases, addressed gang-related activities, and collaborated with federal agencies such as the U.S. Attorney’s Office and the DEA. His expertise in intelligence and investigations has been instrumental in shaping safer correctional practices and exposing corruption.
Robert’s career achievements include his contributions to Maryland’s Prison Corruption Taskforce and his role as an expert witness in gang-related legal cases. Deeply committed to justice reform and professional development, he strives to create environments where staff and justice-involved individuals can thrive.
