Chief Investigator, Kevin Hammond, has been a member of the DC Department of Corrections Office of Investigative Services since October 2, 2017. During his tenure with the agency, he had assumed the positions of Internal Affairs Investigator, Investigative Supervisor, and eventually achieving the position of Chief Investigator for the agency.
On September 11, 1989, Chief Hammond began his career as a Law Enforcement Officer with the City of Chesapeake, Virginia Police Department following his enlistment in the United States Marine Corps. Over the course of his Law Enforcement Career Chief Hammond assumed the role as Field Training Officer, Special Investigations (Vice & Narcotics) Detective, Internal Affairs Detective, Patrol Sergeant, Supervisor – E911 Center, Criminal Intelligence Coordinator within the Criminal Investigations Bureau, and Executive Officer (Detective Lieutenant) of the Criminal Investigations Section. During his tenure with the CPD, Chief Hammond assumed a vital role in dignitary protection details (Obama, Romney, etc.), the agency’s Civil Disturbance Team, and the like. Chief Hammond was also formally certified as a criminal street gang and narcotics expert within several jurisdictions throughout the Tidewater area of Virginia. Chief Hammond retired from law enforcement with just over 28 years of service prior to his employment with the DC Department of Corrections.
