On March 7, 2023, Kenneth Phillips, a 22-year-old inmate in the custody of D.C. Department of Corrections (DCDOC), escaped from Howard University Hospital where he had been transported for further treatment of a medical condition. At approximately 8:30 am, it was reported that Mr. Phillips escaped custody and fled from the hospital.  The Metropolitan Police Department   is actively pursuing the escapee, and the DCDOC is investigating circumstances surrounding his escape from the hospital. Mr. Phillips is a pre-trial inmate being held on carjacking charges including attempted robbery and 2nd degree theft.
