The Department of Corrections (DOC) is charged with the care and custody of a diverse population of inmates that remain in the agency's custody for varying, but relatively short periods of time (median length of stay is 27 days). While housed with the DOC, inmates are offered a variety of programs and services to assist in their eventual transition back to the community. These services including initial and ongoing medical and mental healthcare with testing for HIV/AIDS offered as a routine part of the screening process, as well re-entry and substance abuse programming.
